On Monday afternoon, May 30th 2016, the congress proclamined Davao City Mayor Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte and Camarines Sur Representative Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo as the next president and vice president of the country, respectively.
(Duterte & Robredo proclaimed as new leaders by Congress)
This marks the first-ever milestone, where the president is from Mindanao (second largest and southernmost major island in the Philippines). In his hometown, he has been hailed as the "The Punisher" for no-holds-barred action against crime and corruption. The alledged "Death Squad of Davao" also makes a very ear-stinging issue on the past and current leadership or Proclaimed President Rodrigo Duterte, considering it was being used a tool for extra-judicial killing, pointing out that it was not being investigated by the administration.
The Vice-President Proclaimed Leni Robredo, was also notioned as a new breed of leader, considering her recent background with positions on public service being previously elected in the House of Representatives. Coming from a family who lived in Naga (Camarines Sur), she would be able to shed more light on the people living on the sourthern tips of Luzon.
For me, both of these leaders are not your regular run-of-the-mill politicians, with that I hope that we could support them on making our country shine even brighter.
